Ever keen to try something new on the blog I have had a go at making a spot the difference challenge, using the cover designed by Tom Adams for Dead Man’s Folly. The differences might be additions, omissions or alterations. Since this is my first go at doing this for a blog format I’d be happy to hear user feedback, as it would be good to know whether the pictures are big enough for example, for the differences to be noticed. If you fancy giving it a go put your answers in the comments section below, describing the changes you have noted e.g. Dog is missing from bottom right hand corner. There are 15 differences to spot. The original cover is the one on the left hand side and the one on the right side is the altered copy. I’ll post a picture next week highlighting the differences. Enjoy!
I see 4 differences. Are there really 11 more? I guess I’m not so good at this…

I’ve got 14 I think but I’m going cross-eyed now 😀 You’ve not made it easy with those small ones!

Very well done! Sorry for making you go cross-eyed. I tended to have to go for smaller items due to the computer programmes I was using.

OMG, this reminds me of some puzzles that occur in a mess of Hidden Object video games I played as part of intensive research for an article I planned on Poe stories turned into video games. Just like Bev I found only 12 differences and gave up looking for the final three after massive eyestrain.

I’m not sure what suprises me the most here: that Poe stories were turned into video games, or John using “OMG”… 🙂

yes I hadn’t really considered the potential for eye strain when devising the puzzle. Sorry about that! 12 is a very commendable score though.

I got all the 15 differences. It may be noted that the picture on the right is slightly cropped on the left side which may give rise to false differences.

Yeah that cropping was unintentional but is a consequence of swapping between different computer programmes. Thanks for spotting it (and as well as JJ). I’ve cropped the original slightly so they match (hopefully).

I am in awe of your computer skills. Didn’t think readers could send in their answers this way.

Well, I have found another difference ! In the right picture, one white petal is missing from a flower on the right near the bottom.

This one was an intentional one, unlike the cropping one!

Nice idea! I found 13 including the column on the left of the picture being cropped out…but I’m not sure how deliberate that is. So I found 12, didn’t I? Anyway, it’s a great concept, and a very good first go — more, I say, more!

Yeah that one was unintentional but I think I have rectified it now. Have to use three different computer programmes, to remove items, add them in or change existing ones in someway, so the changed picture can end up cropped unintentionally. But well done for spotting it. Glad it has got such a good response. I may well do more. The trick is to select the right sort of cover, as you need one which is not too busy but needs to have enough going on that what you remove isn’t too obvious.

Oh, so you won’t be doing this one next, then?

haha slightly more limited scope in that one I feel.

[…] Last week I did something new on the blog and set a spot the difference challenge, involving an Agatha Christie cover. Apologies for all the headaches and eye strain incurred. Despite this though the puzzle seemed to go down well so I may well do more such puzzles in the future. If you haven’t had a go already click here. […]
